Studio Amsterdam aims for the development of residential buildings with additional programmes. Overhoeks demands strong, appealing urban forms, public spaces and high densities.
Studio Amsterdam is part of the Master track of the Department of Architecture. Every semester the studio will be hosted by one of the Architecture Chairs and will be tutored by Visiting Professor; Jacob van Rijs (MVRDV). The first instalment of Studio Amsterdam will be hosted by the Chair of Architecture and Dwelling. Students of Studio Amsterdam work at the Faculty in Delft, but will often find themselves in Amsterdam for instructions, information, presentations and debate with leading experts, politicians, and designers from the capital.
The seminars Architectural Studies (AR1Ad030) and Architectural Reflections (AR1Ad040) are strongly connected to the design studio. It is recommended to enroll these courses, which focus on the analysis of relevant projects and texts thus providing tools for the design work in the studio. The research in the seminars is linked to the research programme of the chair and its publication series Delft Architectural Studies on Housing (DASH).
