Director of MVRDV’s German office, Architect Verena Lindenmayer joined MVRDV in 2023.
Lindenmayer brings to bear a keen interest and aptitude in developing strategies for building within established, heterogeneous urban networks, producing sustainable urban building blocks that densify and socially activate cities. Designing with attention to the demands of the climate transition, she advocates for adaptive reuse, through the preservation, renovation, and conversion of existing structures, as well as for vibrant, just, and healthy coexistence in a green city. In her practice, she further emphasises the maximisation of building use, both through hybrid construction methods and programming that triggers synergies.
Lindenmayer was Director for EM2N Architekten (Berlin), having previously spent nine years in their Swiss practice. Developing a strong leadership profile in her career at this office, she progressed to this role after first working as an architect, advancing to Director in 2015. With her early years in practice shaped by the influence of her term at Herzog & de Meuron (Basel), Lindenmayer’s career demonstrates her continual pursuit of excellence in design. Her broader contributions to the architectural professional community include five years of research and teaching while an assistant professor and scientific associate at the Technical University of Berlin, and assessment and lecturing at a wide range of architecture schools including Melbourne School of Design and and BTU Cottbus. Lindenmayer completed her architectural and design studies in both Germany and Switzerland, receiving her Diploma of Architecture and Design from the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart and a Master of Advanced Studies ZFH in Spatial Design from the Zurich University of the Arts.
