Winy Maas, MVRDV co-founder and principal architect, is giving a lecture for the 2019 SCAD Fall Term - Shih Chien Lecture Series of Leading Architects at the Department of Architecture of Shih Chien University Wednesday, November 6, in Taipei, Taiwan. The title of his lecture, "Beautiful Density" is part of the so called “Twin Peaks Cross-Border Forum”.
For this event, the organizers invited also the contemporary Taiwanese artist Kuang-Yu Tsui, currently exhibiting a theoretical proposal on two peaks in a cultural park in Taipei. The artworks connects to MVRDV's project for two towers, thought to occupy defunct or underused areas around Taipei's main station, transforming the place into a vibrant "Times Square for Taiwan". The proposal breaks down the required programme into pleasant small blocks that echo the surrounding urban quarters, thus fitting the density into its surroundings: a beautiful density!
