MVRDV founding partner Winy Maas is invited to speak at the Symposium ‘The Museum of the Future – in Transition’ at Kunsthalle Mannheim. In his keynote titled ‘What’s Next?’ Winy will talk about his perspective as an urbanist on the role of art and art institutions.
The symposium is organized in the context of the exhibition UMBRUCH, the first exhibition by the new director of the Kunsthalle, Johan Holten. The exhibition focuses the public's attention from the new architecture to his vision of a substantive change in the museum's content. The symposium explores the question of how museums react to current social upheavals on site, in urban societies with varying degrees of demand for cultural participation. Other speakers at the symposium are Brinda Summer (City Museum Berlin / Berlin Exhibition Humboldt – Forum), Lasse Andersson (Director Utzon Arts Center & Museum of Modern Art Aalborg) and Cara Courage (Head of Tate Exchange, Tate Modern, London).
The symposium will take place in German and English and will be moderated by Johan Holten & Dörte Ilsabe Dennemann.
Date: 17 October 2020 15:45PM – 16:30PM
