How can Big Data, urban sensor networks and the rapid development of computational design tools contribute to the design process? Are these parameters quantifiable and should they be? Senior Associate Sanne van der Burgh will elaborate on the role of ‘digital tool-making’ through a series of case-studies that range from pragmatic and applied to speculative research on June 30 at Media Architecture Biennale.

Senior associate and Architect Sanne van der Burgh leads multiple teams within MVRDV, realizing projects of various scales, phases, and across several continents. Sanne played an integral role in high profile MVRDV projects including the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen Depot, the refurbishment of the Lyon Part Dieu shopping center, and a visionary project for revitalizing New Delhi’s sanitation and infrastructure: Barapullah Springs. Sanne’s strengths lie in integral project narratives with a focus on sustainability and innovation. With her personal fascination for computational workflows and methodologies, she championed MVRDV NEXT an in-house R&D group that focuses on development and implementation of cutting-edge technologies in MVRDV’s projects.

Media Architecture Biennale is the world’s premier event on media architecture, urban interaction design, digital place making, urban media art and urban informatics. This year it takes place in hybrid form and is hosted by Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and Utrecht University. Sanne will do a keynote presentation, followed by an interview and a short Q&A with an audience.

  • Date & time: June 30 – 10.30-11.30 (CET).
