How does MVRDV approach global issues that greatly affect urban areas, such as densification and climate change? Director of MVRDV Asia, Steven Smit, will tell you all about his radical visions and approaches when solving those type of urban issues at the Community 2050 international competition and symposium on September 29.

Furthermore, he will talk about the design gene of MVRDV that is locally represented in our projects by focusing on carbon neutrality and sustainability. Additionally, he will take part in the symposium’s jury panel.

Steven Smit is Director MVRDV Asia. Based in the MVRDV Shanghai office, Steven oversees design teams and clients and enables adventurous MVRDV creations that truly engage with the unique and challenging urban contexts in Asia. 20 years continuous involvement in architecture and urban projects in China have given Steven a panoramic view of Chinese hyper urbanization and corresponding challenges towards de-carbonizing the Chinese built environment.

Steven will lecture and be part of the panel jury during the Community 2050 international competition and symposium. The Urban Planning & Design Institute of Shenzen (UPDIS) organizes this event together with the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) and the International Curate and Communication Agency.
