From April 14, 2022, Almere will be the stage for 6 months of the world horticultural exhibition Floriade Expo 2022. Under the theme "Growing Green Cities", Floriade presents creative, green and sustainable solutions necessary to achieve this. A theme more important than ever. At MVRDV, we have the honor to design the site of this Floriade Expo.

Director Nicolas Land will speak about the vision and ideas behind the design of the expo at October 6 at the residency of the Dutch ambassador in Paris. Nicolas Land leads French projects in the detailed development and execution stages for MVRDV’s France Studio. He lends an international perspective to his practice, having completed his architectural studies in both France and the Netherlands.

Co-founding partner Winy Maas: "With Almere the Floriade has a new approach. We will build a city that is literally green as well as ecological. A city that produces food and energy, cleans its own water, recycles waste and holds a great biodiversity. A city which might even be autarkic: A symbiotic world of people, plants and animals. Can this symbiosis between city and countryside offer essential argumentation to the global concerns regarding of urbanisation and consumption? We are thrilled to be working on this exciting project."

  • Date and time: October 6 – 20:00-22:00 (CET).
  • Location: Hôtel d’Avaray, Paris.
