The most exciting places are ones that are living, constantly evolving by repurposing their pasts for the next generation of residents. In many cases, that means reusing the buildings we already have, and thus restorations, renovations, and other transformations are crucial to a functioning city-whether on the scale of individual family houses or vast post-industrial complexes. Studio director Gideon Maasland will discuss the repurposing of heritage at Provada in Amsterdam, on October 27.
Director and architect Gideon Maasland joined MVRDV in 2016. Maasland leads MVRDV’s Studio 8, which is responsible for large-scale, complex buildings. He leads all projects in his studio under development and construction, including Valley, Tripolis Park, and the transformation of Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, as well as various projects in Eindhoven, Poland, and the UK. Renowned for his detailed and dedicated approach, Maasland’s work is hands-on. To ensure the highest quality, he is often on the construction site directly overseeing building processes.
Provada is the largest real estate fair in the Netherlands, from October 26 till 28. One of the activities at this fair is the discussion of the repurposing of heritage, organized by Vastgoedmarktpodium. Gideon Maasland will discuss this topic with Ton Meijer from Meyer Bergman Erfgoed Groep. Lesley Bamberger from Kroonenberg and Daan van der Vorm from Van der Vorm.
