How can we create a comfortable, green, liveable city? And how do we use our resources and space to future proof our environment? Join Fokke Moerel at the Architizer Future Fest on September 21st as she explores the ways in which we can create a more sustainable environment to thrive in. Fokke will speak on a number of our projects, such as MVRDV’S award winning project Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen – winner of the Popular Choice A+ Award in the Gallery and Exhibition Spaces category.
MVRDV partner Fokke Moerel was one of the first architects to join MVRDV in 1998. She leads projects with a focus on public and cultural works, transformations and interior design all around the globe. Fokke has completed award-winning designs such as the Baltyk office tower in Poznan, Poland, the Book Mountain Library in Spijkenisse and the Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy in Amsterdam. Currently she leads the interior architecture department at MVRDV and oversaw the construction of Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, the first publicly accessible art depot in the world, which opened its doors in 2021 in Rotterdam.
Fokke’s personal drive is to collaborate on the design and realisation of buildings which have a strong connection to, and impact on, their direct surroundings, such as (semi-)public buildings, refurbishments of monumental buildings which can revive their neighbourhood, and buildings with a clear end-user. Fokke holds a master’s degree in architecture from the Academy of Architecture Rotterdam, and a BA in interior architecture from the Willem de Kooning Academy. Fokke has taught at multiple renowned universities in countries such as the US, UK, Thailand and the Netherlands and participates as an external critic at the Academy of Architecture Rotterdam.
Founded in 2009, Architizer is the largest database for architecture and sourcing the latest innovations in the building product industry. It enables architects to search for, evaluate, and share building products across teams, with the mission to celebrate the world’s best architecture and the people that bring it to life. The Architizer Future Fest serves architects with the inspiration and information they need to build better buildings, better cities, and a better world.
