How can we create spaces inspired by the surrounding community that are also tailored to the ambitions of a growing city?
On June 22, Sven Thorissen will present the 68.000-square meter mixed-use complex KoolKiel during the ReFraming Architecture B2B event in Hamburg. By referring to MVRDV's design process, Sven will highlight how the project redevelops a post-industrial site while retaining its social and architectural diversity, liveliness and complexity.
ReFraming Architecture is a B2B event series organised by stilwerk, a German retail platform specialized in interior design, where architects are invited yearly to present insights related to innovative projects on contemporary topics. Part of the 10th edition of the Hamburger Architektur Sommer - Hamburg Architecture Summer festival, this year's ReFraming Architecture event invites its guests to share experiences on the topic "City Housing / City Living".
Director and Architect Sven Thorissen, currently oversees MVRDV’s Das Studio, explicitly focused on growing the office’s profile and portfolio in Germany. Thorissen returned to MVRDV in early 2019 after a 12 year-hiatus, a considerable period of which he was working as Concept Developer for Proper Stok and Strategic Advisor Spatial Development, Economy and Sustainability for the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn. He leverages this broad range of experience with private and public organizations, across architectural design, project development, and sustainability in his studio leadership.
