How can we successfully combine living, working and nature in a dense urban context?
The CTBUH Conference on Humanizing High Density-People, Nature & the Urban Realm will advance the fundamental premise that high-density urbanization can support healthy living, working and civic and social engagement. It will examine issues of liveability in the ongoing discourse about future cities and explore possible solutions for it.
On October 17, Gideon Maasland will present MVRDV’s Valley together with Edge CEO Coen van Oostrom, with “Humanizing High Density” as the central topic of their presentation. By making reference to MVRDV’s design processes, Gideon will address how Valley combines a green and a human dimension into an office environment district, while offering various locations throughout the complex, such as offices, shops, catering, cultural facilities and apartments.
Director and Architect Gideon Maasland joined MVRDV in 2016. With extensive experience acquired over a 15-year career at several high profile Dutch offices, Maasland leads MVRDV’s Studio 8, which is responsible for large-scale, complex buildings. Renowned for his detailed and dedicated approach, which is due to his diverse educational and professional background that not only includes extensive architectural practice, but also carpentry and construction methodology, Maasland’s work is hands-on. This proved invaluable to the success of his studio in the design and construction of multiple complex, large-scale projects, which meet design expectations in the completed building, and in consistently managed processes. To ensure the highest quality, Maasland is often on the construction site directly overseeing building processes.
