Hoe is MVRDV een wereldwijd bureau geworden en toch in contact gebleven met haar lokale Rotterdamse wortels?

Op zaterdag 18 november zal MVRDV Founding Partner, architect en stedenbouwkundige Nathalie de Vries deelnemen aan de Cultural Currency Conference georganiseerd door Concrete Blossom in de Niteshop in Rotterdam.

Nathalie duikt in de begindagen van MVRDV en zal tijdens haar lezing uitleggen hoe zij met haar bureau zowel lokaal werkt, voor de Hoogstaart, de buurt en de stad Rotterdam, als ook op mondiale schaal met lokale inheemse bevolking aan verschillende projecten. Haar lezing zal projecten belichten zoals de Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health in Toronto, de Sea2city Vancouver en de Harvard Entreprise Research Campus in Boston.

De Niteshop organiseert de Cultural Currency Conference, een weekend vol activiteiten gericht op de toekomst van superdiverse steden, dat gehouden zal worden in Keilepand Rotterdam. Drie dagen lang discussiëren experts  over het vormgeven van een toekomstbestendige samenleving. Concrete Blossom presenteert De Campus voor Alledaagse Kennis, waar taal en leefwerelden uit de migrantenbuurt de samenleving bepalen. Deelnemers aan de Campus vertellen over hun praktijk, waarna sprekers van de Boekmanstichting, MVRDV en de gemeente Rotterdam dit spiegelen aan de wereld van beleid, onderzoek en architectuur. De lezing op zaterdag is in het Nederlands, maar andere evenementen tijdens het weekend zijn in het Engels.

How did MVRDV become a global practice while staying in touch with its local Rotterdam roots?

On Saturday 18th of November, MVRDV Founding Partner, Architect and Urban Planner Nathalie de Vries will join the Cultural Currency Conference organized by Concrete Blossom at the Niteshop in Rotterdam.

Diving into MVRDV’s early days, Nathalie will explain during her lecture how MVRDV simultaneously works locally, for the Hosgstaart, the neighborhood and the city of Rotterdam but also on a bigger scale with local indigenous populations on various projects. Her lecture will highlight projects such as the Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health,  the Sea2city Vancouver or the Harvard Entreprise Research Campus. 

The Niteshop is organizing the Cultural Currency Conference, a weekend of activities focusing on the future of super-diverse cities, which will be held in Keilepand Rotterdam. For three days experts will discuss shaping a future-proof society. There, Concrete Blossom presents The Campus for Everyday Knowledge, where language and lifeworlds from the migrant neighborhood define society. Participants of the Campus will tell about their practice, after which speakers from the Boekman Foundation, MVRDV and the City of Rotterdam will reflect this to the world of policy, research and architecture. The lecture on Saturday will be in Dutch but other events during the weekend will be in English.
