On 20 June, MVRDV's research and projects on urban generation and sustainable transformation will underpin MVRDV Shanghai Director Peter Chang's talk at the CTBUH 2024 China Conference. Elaborating on both ongoing and realised projects in China and globally, Peter will explain how the practice's work plays a role in regeneration for sustainable cities. This ranges from the transformation of a mid-1990s tower into a multifunctional, vibrant and colourful skyscraper for the Shenzhen Women and Children's Centre, to Expo 2.0, which will convert MVRDVs Expo 2000 pavilion into a co-working office building, while adding two buildings which reinterpret the pavilion's original concept.
On the theme of Towards Regenerative Cities: Environmental, Economic, and Social Sustainable Transformation, the CTBUH 2024 China Conference conference will combine global research and practice from various professional fields within the industry to jointly explore the development path of urban strategic transformation and organic growth. With the goal of reducing environmental impact, the conference aims to increase urban effective space through intensive development, activate existing functionalities, promote the optimal allocation of resources, enhance spatial carrying capacity, generate economic benefits from renewal and transformation, refine development layouts, and truly achieve sustainable development in high-density cities. This will lead to the formation of a new generation of high-rise buildings and densified cities.
Director of MVRDV's Shanghai office and a RIBA Chartered Architect, Peter has rich experience in urban and architectural design, and has been involved in projects in Australia, China and Singapore. He is currently responsible for the management and coordination of MVRDV's projects in China. He has been involved in projects such as Vanke 3D city, Idea Factory, and Vanke Crystal.
