How do you help deliver a vibrant, green, sustainable, residential neighbourhood?
On 27 and 28 September Senior Associate and Architect Nacho Velasco will deliver two lectures at the University of Valladolid. Introducing the practice and its scope of work - from interiors and facades through to urban masterplans - first in a public address, followed on the second day by a speech to newly graduating students and wider attendees - Velasco will also discuss MVRDV's recent work. With a focus on Project Gomila, Velasco will explain how MVRDV is helping to reinvigorate El Terreno in Palma, Mallorca, a neighbourhood steeped in history. Comprising seven buildings, each of which is executed in a different colour and material, the masterplan will ultimately see four existing buildings renovated and three newly constructed, with six now completed.
Senior Associate and Architect Nacho Velasco currently leads several small- to medium-scale projects, while also supporting to the office’s business development in Spain. Joining MVRDV in 2008, he led the design and execution of the CUBE shopping mall in Shanghai – a project awarded the UNESCO Prix de Versailles - the new Sotheby's exhibition space in Hong Kong, the renovation of "Casa Camper" Hotel in Berlin, and the mixed-use development "Project Gomila" in Palma de Mallorca.
Prior to joining MVRDV, Velasco Martin worked with Group A Architects in Rotterdam, and at the University of Valladolid (ES) with a research fellowship in the Urban Institute. His diverse experience and interest in design at all scales speaks to his passion for architecture and its multiple connections to other fields.
