What do we mean by social façades, and how are they represented in our projects?
On 11 October, Partner and Head of Strategy and Business Development Jan Knikker will discuss this question at the SHARE International Architecture Forum in Tblisi, Georgia. Referencing a range of projects including La Serre, with its open, green façade which enhances biodiversity and creates connections between residents and the local community, and Valley, with a glass and stone exterior that at once playfully represents and communicates the local communities in which the building is situated alongside the thousands of trees and plants that positively impact building users' wellbeing, Jan will explain MVRDV's approach to creating social façades.
Jan Knikker joined MVRDV in 2008. Prior to this, Knikker shaped OMA’s public image for nearly a decade, after having first began his career as a journalist. As Partner and Director of Strategy at MVRDV, Knikker drives Business Development and Public Relations efforts, spearheading a large and dynamic studio that also includes the office’s visualization capacity. He further leads the office’s branding efforts, and MVRDV’s expansion into new regions and typologies, by supporting the office’s ambition to generate solutions to global challenges through a multifaceted approach to architecture, urbanism, and computing.
