What do we mean by a future-ready building?
On 15 October Partner and Head of Business Development Strategy Jan Knikker will explore this question in a talk at DEVO 2024, the Forum of Large Construction Projects in Romania. Assessing a range of projects, from the Pyramid of Tirana which transformed a building originally dedicated to the dictator Enver Hoxha into a new form of cultural hub, to Valley, which adds a green and human dimension to the largely business-oriented Zuidas District of Amsterdam, Jan will explain how future-ready buildings incorporate a range of factors, including designing with carbon in mind, avoiding stranded assets, and transformations of existing structures.
Jan Knikker joined MVRDV in 2008. Prior to this, Knikker shaped OMA’s public image for nearly a decade, after having first began his career as a journalist. As Partner and Director of Strategy at MVRDV, Knikker drives Business Development and Public Relations efforts, spearheading a large and dynamic studio that also includes the office’s visualization capacity. He further leads the office’s branding efforts, and MVRDV’s expansion into new regions and typologies, by supporting the office’s ambition to generate solutions to global challenges through a multifaceted approach to architecture, urbanism, and computing.
