How does MVRDV view urbanism in a changing world?
On 19 October Associate and Architect Valentina Chiappa Nuñez will consider this question at the Utopian Hours festival in Torino. Reflecting on a range of projects including the transformation of a former city centre shopping mall into an urban lagoon that reconnects with nature and its waterfront, and the Almere Floriade 2022, which envisaged a lasting Cité Idéal as the expo became a green extension to the city's centre, Valentina will discuss how the practice's urbanists can plan for a world in which ecological self-sufficiency, reintegrating cities into surrounding landscapes, improving mobility, and turning infrastructure into community spaces can become important principles.
Valentina Chiappa Nuñez studied architecture at Politecnico of Milan and gathered experience throughout her professional career in the Netherlands in past fifteen years. At MVRDV, she has worked on the concept and design development of various projects, mainly for urban scale projects both within the Urban Studio and giving her contribution across several departments as an urban advisor. Recently she has been responsible for developing the realization of One Green Mile in Mumbai, the transformation of a 200-metre-long unused space beneath a flyover infrastructure into a public space for the local community.
