What is "the Mediterranean Way", and how do we learn from and incorporate its influence into our designs?
On 25 October, in conversation with Professor Enzo Calabrese, Associate Director and Architect Aser Giménez-Ortega will consider these questions from a number of perspectives at MAS Week. Examining a range of MVRDV projects, including Gomila and how it combines innovation and heritage, Mirador, whose large lookout space provides the collection of mini-neighbourhoods with a community garden, spaces to contemplate the skyline, and outdoor living, and Amere Oostervold, which builds communities from the bottom up and informally, Aser will explain how the values of Mediterranean cities and people can influence buildings.
Associate Director and Architect Aser Giménez-Ortega, oversees the work of MVRDV's Interiors specialists. Having joined MVRDV in 2007 after working as an architect and urban designer in Spain, Brazil, and elsewhere in the Netherlands, he has extensive experience leading projects of various scales and phases, ranging from masterplans to interior design and from concept to construction. Aser played an integral role in the conceptualisation, realisation, and management of Oslo’s DNB bank headquarters, as well as Shanghai’s Hongqiao Flower Building. Aser has also been responsible for a range of interior and retail projects both in Europe and in Asia, including Tiffany & Co.'s stores in Shanghai Taikoo Li, China, and Singapore Changi Airport.
