How do we deliver purposeful transformations while limiting their carbon footprint?
On 21 November, in a public lecture for Kovalska freely available online, partner and architect Fokke Moerel will explain MVRDV's approach via various projects of adaptive re-use which showcase how we find sustainable solutions in each particular set of circumstances. Whether Crystal Houses, the Shenzhen Women & Children's Centre, or the Pyramid of Tirana, they demand a specific approach to make a real difference publicly while simultaneously minimising the environmental impact. From rebuilding what was previously there to celebrating heritage, to delivering new usages and creating opportunities for communities, Fokke will demonstrate how we marginalise our impact while delivering real value.
Partner and Architect Fokke Moerel was one of the first architects to join MVRDV in 1998. Her projects include public and cultural buildings, as well as transformations of monumental buildings that endeavor to revive their immediate urban context. To this end, she oversees teams working on designs ranging from interiors to public buildings. Through MVRDV projects, she generates a strong relationship between interior and exterior public programme.
