On January 20th at 17:50, Lorenzo Mattozzi will present a lecture titled "Topology and connection in MVRDV's architecture" at Casa dell’Architettura in Rome, Italy. The lecture, organised by the Roma Chamber of Architects, is part of a series of lectures titled “Conversazioni sulla pratica del progetto” (Conversations on project practices) where international guests are invited to discuss their approach to design, research and profession in architecture.
Lorenzo Mattozzi will be presenting a selection of the most inspiring projects by MVRDV from the past 30 years which question the topics of density, porosity, publicness and inclusivity. What factors contributed to MVRDV's current status as a renowned architectural firm? How did it all begin? Do the recent projects still reflect the office's original vision? Through an exploration of MVRDV's history and design methodology, Lorenzo will demonstrate how the projects have evolved, developed, and adapted over the years, transforming a small practice with ambitious goals and a global perspective into a prominent and successful architectural firm.
As part of this initiative, a conversation will follow with architects Sabrina Morreale and Lorenzo Perri, founders of Lemonot, a studio that mixes architecture and performative arts. Lorenzo will contribute insights on design, research, methodology and unhinging architecture topologies throughout the work of MVRDV. Admission to the event is open and free for registered architects, and €10 (plus tax) for all other guests.
Lorenzo, an Associate and Architect at MVRDV, leads projects in the DAS Studio, focusing on mixed-use developments, urban integration, and social connectivity. He joined MVRDV in late 2017, initially working in the Asia Studio for four years, where he successfully completed four projects primarily in China. With prior experience in various architectural firms across Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Brazil, Lorenzo brings a wealth of expertise in architectural and infrastructural design, project development, and sustainability to his leadership role.
