How does MVRDV support the reconstruction of post-war cities, buildings, and communities?
At the launch of Bohdan Kryzhanovsk's book "Architecture after War: A Reader", Partner and Architect Fokke Moerel will describe through real-world examples, and the essay which she co-authored with Jan Knikker, Partner and Director of Strategy and Development, how our projects can flexibly respond to the circumstances of those impacted by conflict. First briefly touching on NUVO, a mixed-use development in Kyiv's commercial centre, Fokke will explain how we can create flexible and demountable spaces which adapt to changing user needs. Taking flexibility, adaptation, and transformation as themes, Fokke will also discuss the Stairs to Kriterion, Concordia, the Rooftop Catalogue, and TEDA Urban Fabric, each of which offer ideas on how to rebuild cities and reuse buildings, all while respecting and reflecting the historic spaces in which they sit.
Partner and Architect Fokke Moerel was one of the first architects to join MVRDV in 1998. Her projects include public and cultural buildings, as well as transformations of monumental buildings that endeavor to revive their immediate urban context. To this end, she oversees teams working on designs ranging from interiors to public buildings. Through MVRDV projects, she generates a strong relationship between interior and exterior public programme.
