What is MVRDV's approach to collective housing?

On 2 April at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, founding partner, principal architect, and urban planner Jacob van Rijs will deliver a lecture on how the practice's work with the Fugger Foundation serves as inspiration for how MVRDV creates diverse, innovative, and sustainable housing projects at differing scales. In a discussion moderated by Francisco Quintana, reflecting on the Fuggerei 500NEXT Pavilion and its accompanying manual on building the Fuggerei of the future, together with recent collective housing projects, Jacob will explain how MVRDV creates buildings for a variety of inhabitants, while delivering spaces that both incorporate and reflect individual and collective needs.

The ‘VR’ of MVRDV, Jacob van Rijs is renowned for his dedication to bold concepts combining daring ideas with a humane and user-friendly approach. Van Rijs has developed this approach over the past 30 years in practice, leading to a wide range of the office’s most notable projects, from cultural and civic buildings to transformations, and from residential buildings and social housing to interiors. Recently appointed Full Professor of Architecture Design at TU Eindhoven, he teaches and lectures worldwide.
