As generative AI becomes an increasingly useful tool in the design process, the question for the team at MVRDV NEXT isn’t just how to use these tools, but how to leverage them as streamlined, empowering tools for every architect across our studio.
In a lecture for Archi-Position on 30 June, Fredy Fortich and Sanne van der Burgh will explain how MVRDV is working to harness AI’s potential through customised methodologies that improve our control and design precision. Likewise, they'll discuss how MVRDV NEXT is focused on developing AI workflows that augment the creative process through participatory and collaborative strategies.
Fredy and Sanne's presentation will provide a summary of MVRDV's journey, and how the practice has combined experimental and practical projects to develop multimodal approaches and iterative processes in our effort to explore new ways to develop projects and tell architectural stories.
Sanne van der Burgh leads multiple teams within MVRDV, realizing projects of various scales, phases, and across several continents. Sanne played an integral role in high-profile MVRDV projects including the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, the refurbishment of the Lyon Part Dieu shopping center, and a visionary project for revitalizing New Delhi’s sanitation and infrastructure: Barapullah Springs. Sanne is a versatile architect with demonstrated design achievements. In 2019, Architizer named her as one of 25 young architects to watch. In 2021, she was the winner of the Female Frontier Awards, organized by World Architecture News, winning the category “Innovation in Architecture”. Sanne regularly appears in lectures and juries worldwide.
Fredy Fortich is an Architect and Engineer, specializing in computational design: BIM coordination, performance-based design, generative design, and machine learning methods. He holds an MSc in Building Technology from TU Delft and a Master of Architecture from Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá. He is a Technical Architect, serving simultaneously as BIM Manager at MVRDV’s French Studio as well as AI Researcher on Diffusion Models for MVRDV NEXT.
