In her lecture, Nathalie will contribute to this year’s conference theme, The Necessarily New, which examines the conditions under which new buildings should still be realized. Drawing on selected MVRDV projects, she will reflect on how architecture can respond to contemporary urban and civic challenges, and how new construction can be balanced with the growing emphasis on preservation and reuse.
Nathalie’s lecture is part of a program featuring speakers including Philipp Rode (LSE Cities), Milica Topalović (ETH Zürich), Franz-Josef Höing (Oberbaudirektor, Hamburg), and Yves Moreau (Studio Muoto, Paris). The Civic Design Conference is organized annually by the Civic Design master’s program at the Peter Behrens School of Arts and brings together voices from practice, research, and policy to discuss current questions of urban development.
