How can architecture reshape museums from behind their walls, opening their doors to all groups of society while revitalizing and greening cities? Follow the conversation between MVRDV founding partner Winy Maas, who designed the world’s first accessible museum storage facility, and French architecture journalist and critic Trétiack at the museum conference SITEM in Paris to find out more! The conversation is in French.
In this conversation we will learn more about Winy Maas' radical vision for culture in the city, focusing on a new typology of museum as a model, the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, designed by MVRDV. Many international museums today exhibit only six to seven percent of their collections. The remaining 94% are hidden in reserves. The Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen breaks with this tradition of concealment: its design makes visible all these previously invisible artefacts in a unique and emblematic reflective building.
