Every architect has a unique and distinctive design ethos and vision. On the 14th of April, Jan Knikker was invited to share MVRDV's philosophy, discuss experiences and projects, and highlight the inspirations for the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.

 

Jan Knikker regularly lectures at international, commercial, and academic venues in Germany (Polis Convention, Stiftung Baukultur), the UK (RIBA), Colombia (Universidad Nacional, Utadeo), Austria (MAK), Australia (RMIT), Kuala Lumpur (UCSI), and many other notable venues. From 2007 to 2011, he was a member of the International Projects commission of the Netherlands’ Architecture Funds, and has written and contributed to numerous MVRDV publications and exhibitions, including MVRDV Buildings with Founding Partners Jacob Van Rijs and Nathalie de Vries. He strongly believes that every functional detail is essential when planning and developing projects, whether big or small, from concept kitchens to public buildings, large urban projects, and everything in between.

The 57°10 Architecture Society - a name abstracted from their geographic location - is the largest and oldest society at Robert Gordon University. The society is a unique student driven collective from The Scott Sutherland School of Architecture & Built Environment, and as it enters its 33rd year, continues to invite inspiring architects and designers from a range of disciplines to host lectures, which are open to both students and members of the public. The lectures touch upon topics including design, philosophy, inspiration, and office dynamics.
