Three projects by MVRDV – the Roskilde Festival Folk High School, The Imprint, and Bulgari Kuala Lumpur – have been named as winners in the 2020 German Design Awards. Hosted by the German Design Council, the awards recognise projects that, in the words of the award itself, “represent pioneering contributions to the German and international design landscape.” In addition to the awards given by the jury, public voting is now open for the Public Choice Award – details on how to vote for MVRDV’s projects are below.

The Imprint, which won an award in the Excellent Architecture category, was commended by the jury for the details of its ‘imprinted’ façade: “The three-dimensional relief effect of the texture gives the two buildings a distinctive aesthetic that makes them unmistakable and eye-catching. The unique folds that make the building look like it’s made from rubber, something that amazes onlookers, are clearly a great success.” You can vote for The Imprint in the Public Choice Awards here.

The Roskilde Festival Folk High School, designed by MVRDV and COBE, also won an award in the Excellent Architecture category. Here, the jury complimented the design for its physical representation of the school’s unique learning atmosphere: “The colourful cubes, integrated into the existing architecture of the old concrete factory through a distinctive box-in-box concept, act as classrooms reminiscent of the modern interior style of a start-up company. A refreshingly-different choice of architecture for a school, which underlines the informal teaching style beautifully.” You can vote for Roskilde Festival Folk High School in the Public Choice Awards here.

Finally, the Bulgari Flagship Store in Kuala Lumpur was awarded in the Retail Architecture Subcategory. The building’s façade is inspired by the brand’s famous store on Via Condotti in Rome, and uses a unique concrete and resin material permeated by gold light to create a marble-veined appearance. “The characteristic cornice with its marble-like appearance attracts attention and emphasises the brand identity,” Explained the Jury Statement. Members of the public can vote for up to five projects in the Public Choice Award by registering at the Website of the German Design Awards. Voting is open until January 17 2020. More information about the voting process can be found here
