MVRDV's Markthal in Rotterdam received the German Council of Shopping Centres (GCSC) award for European Innovation. The award, now in its fourth year, was given for the building's multifunctional benefits as well as the inspiring artistic design. The panel stressed the importance of innovation within the retail sector and felt as though the Markthal embodied this. MVRDV co-founder Winy Maas and Head of Public Relations and Business Development, Jan Knikker were present at GCSC's award ceremony in Frankfurt to receive the prize.
