Stefan de Koning leaves MVRDV

undefined

Following more than two decades with the practice, during which time he has both seen enormous change and contributed to our growth, Partner Stefan de Koning is leaving MVRDV. Joining an organisation then numbering just 25, Stefan’s input into projects in multiple countries and continents as architect, project leader, associate, head of department, studio director, and ultimately in 2019 as partner mirrors the growth of a practice now in excess of 300 employees. Among many projects, Stefan worked alongside colleagues on notable developments including the Lloyd Hotel (Amsterdam), Gyre (Tokyo), Future Towers (Pune), the Pyramid of Tirana (Tirana), Pixel (Abu Dhabi), TUMO (Yerevan), and De Oosterlingen (Amsterdam).

“Throughout the past 22 years, I was able to help embed the core design values for MVRDV that are still being applied to today – densification, permeability, diversity, humour, and creating buildings that are both accessible and surprising. With MVRDV now in a position as one of the world’s foremost practices, it is well set to deliver on its ambitious future goals. I believe MVRDV will continue to deliver the same positive impact to the field of architecture as it has done for the last three decades.”

We’re very grateful to Stefan for his contributions to the practice and having helped shape successful competition submissions, masterplans and completed buildings. MVRDV’s business in Rotterdam and across our satellite offices will continue as normal, with ongoing projects led by Stefan distributed between MVRDV’s partners and directors.
