What topics and themes does MVRDV think about when designing for sustainability and circularity?

On 22 April, founding partner and principal architect Winy Maas will deliver a keynote at the EIT Culture & Creativity Innovation Forum in Nice, in which he'll discuss the some of the foundational principles and research underpinning an array MVRDV's key projects, such as Expo 2000, Valley, and the Rooftop Catalogue. Assessing the challenges of the future, and in particular the industry's responsible to reduce and minimise carbon impacts, Winy will reference not just the importance of material choices in new construction, but also transformations and delivering new life and programming to existing buildings, such as the Pyramid of Tirana and Tripolis Park. Winy will conclude with how we can deliver the cities of the future through climate adaptation.

The ‘M’ of MVRDV, Founding Partner and Principal Architect Winy Maas has received international acclaim for his broad range of urban planning and building projects, across all typologies and scales. These are often self-generated, innovative, experimental, and theoretical. Driven by this dedication to green, user-defined, sustainable cities and spaces, Maas’ leadership drives many of the office’s award-winning projects, amongst them Rotterdam’s Markthal, Crystal Houses, the Tianjin Binhai Library, Valley and the first publicly accessible art depot in the world, Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen.
