Sanne van den Burgh to discuss embodied carbon at PROVADA

undefined

On June 9, 2026, Sanne van den Burgh, Head of MVRDV NEXT, will speak at PROVADA as part of the session Paris Proof Bouwen | Embodied Carbon: wat is mogelijk?

The session will focus on the next major challenge in the transition to a more sustainable built environment: reducing the carbon emissions embedded in construction materials. While operational energy use has become a familiar topic, embodied carbon - the emissions associated with producing materials such as concrete and steel - remains one of the largest and least visible contributors to the climate impact of new buildings.

Drawing on MVRDV’s research and practice, Sanne will discuss how architects and developers can better understand, measure, and reduce embodied carbon, and what tools and strategies are available to support this transition. The conversation will explore how data can inform design decisions and how the sector can move from ambition to implementation.

Sanne will be joined by Tim Luijt, Real Estate Developer at COD Real Estate, to discuss lessons learned and opportunities for action across the development and design process.
