Public Art Depot MBVB gets final go-ahead

undefined

The design for MVRDV’s Public Art Depot for Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam has been given the green light. Since the municipality of Rotterdam concluded a majority vote for the project back in November, MVRDV has been working closely with members of the community to finalise designs in a way which best suits all parties. The tendering process is currently underway and, after that, construction is due to start after summer.

The Public Art Depot will become the first of its typology in the world; an art storage and restoration centre which is fully open to the public. The usually hidden away processes that go on in the world of art will for the first time be accessible, whilst at the same time, top of the range facilities will ensure the best care for the works. The building will be topped with an elevated forest and restaurant for the public, offering panoramic views over the park and city.
