This week, MVRDV's Crystal Houses won the Glass Innovation Award 2016! The flagship store located at the exclusive P.C. Hooftstraat shopping street in Amsterdam, won this award for its glass bricks which form almost the entire facade of the building. The jury was impressed by the numerous special elements of the facade and the unique use of glass. The award was handed to client Warenar, the project has been realized in collaboration with TU Delft, ABT and Poesia.
The Glass Awards are an initiative of Vakgroep GBO of Bouwend Nederland, the employers' organisation of the glass sector in the Netherlands. The award is a biannual prize and awards two projects: One Glass Award and one Innovation Award. The Glass Award of this year has been won by Museum Voorlinden for its artwork 'Schijn-Zwembad' (an imaginary swimmingpool).
In 2014, MVRDV's Glass Farm, the building in shape of a traditional farm wrapped in an entire imprinted glass facade located in the small village Schijndel, was awarded with the Glass Award.
